Letter from Mrs Page Free School Meals for All 190924
Fri 13 Sep 202412th September 2024
Dear Parents & Carers
Next Thursday drop off at school will feel very different. Our school has been chosen to represent MP Zarah Sultana’s constituency as she and the NEU highlight their campaign for ‘Free School Meals for All’ school children. Zarah, the tour bus, photographers and film crews will be in school talking to the children about healthy meals and enjoying a school meal together. There will be an opportunity for parents to get involved too as Mrs Carey invites Zarah to meet parents at our Thursday coffee morning. You will be made very welcome!
Whilst the primary objective for the ‘Free School Meals for All’ campaign is to tackle hidden poverty, there are other very important issues which could be addressed through the initiative. At All Saints we champion a pastoral approach which supports all children and families to enjoy the same opportunities. We believe every child has potential to achieve in their future lives but there is still inequality and under representation in leading professions. Where possible we want to remove all barriers in school so all children feel equally valued.
In school we want to promote healthy lifestyles and have been looking at different ways to link learning with practical day to day activities. For example, Year 3’s cooking project of shepherd’s pie was linked to the school dinner menu. Dental hygiene and balanced diets are key issues for our health service. School meals provide an opportunity for all children to have a nutritious healthy meal together. Many parents worry about children’s limited diets at home and feel children will try different foods in school with their peers.
Hosting this event is also a great opportunity for children to see ‘Courageous Advocacy’ in action. We want them to see how MPs work on behalf of their constituents and how thoughts and opinions are shared. We want them to know that people can join together to discuss and debate different causes, and all voices are listened to.
As there will be photographers and a film crew recording the event we will be asking for your consent in case your child is photographed or filmed chatting to the crew. Please complete the form ASAP or chat to a member of staff if you would like to understand more about the day.
Please follow this link. https://forms.office.com/e/Ftgy4it7Bq

Mrs Cara Page, Headteacher
