Ensuring Children's Safety on Strathmore Avenue
Ensuring Children's Safety on Strathmore Avenue
At our school, the safety and preservation of life must always be our primary concern. We understand the frustrations drivers face as our school is effectively situated in a cul-de-sac. However, the safety of our children must come first.
Dangerous Traffic Situations
One of the most concerning issues is cars performing three-point turns near the school. Often, the back end of these cars overlaps onto the pavement, posing a serious risk to pedestrians, especially children. Many parents and carers are giving children greater independence by not collecting them directly from the school gate. This raises concerns that small children, who might not be seen, could easily be hit by a vehicle. It is crucial that vulnerable children are supervised to ensure their safety.
Safety Guidelines for Drivers
To mitigate these risks, we urge all drivers to take extra care when driving near the school. Whenever possible, please walk to the school to alleviate pressure on this very dangerous area. If you must drive and space is limited, please adhere to the following guidelines:
- Do not drive up to, park by, move, or make three-point turns by the 'Think Before You Park' signs.
- Do not drive up to the school and then reverse back down Strathmore Avenue.
- Do not drop children off in the centre of the road.
- Do not park on footpaths.
- Do not park across kerbs or driveways.
- Only park in permitted areas.
- Always park safely and be considerate of children and residents by not causing an obstruction.
Support from PCSOs
We have requested advice and support from our Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs). As you might remember, they previously blocked off the entrance to Strathmore Avenue to everyone except residents, resulting in a much safer environment for our children. This is measure that is still under consideration and has the support of the local community.
Alternative Parking
Please remember that there is a large car park at the back of the school at the Charterhouse field entrance. Using this car park can significantly reduce traffic congestion and enhance safety around the school.
Community Feedback
We continue to welcome feedback from members of the community as we strive to make our school a safe and happy environment for all. Your cooperation and consideration are vital in ensuring the safety of our children. Thank you for your ongoing support.
